We Shouldn’t Be Surprised
We [Pete & Sarah Benton] believe that God is calling us to plant a New Ground church in the heart of Berlin.
We would love you to join us as we pray for this influential city and the new church. Known as the ‘atheist capital of Europe’, Berlin is a city that desperately needs more churches that will preach, and live out, the Gospel of Jesus. We are really excited about joining other churches already in the city in seeking to bring the Kingdom of God to this key European and global city.
Sarah and I had been asking for some prophetic vision and encouragement for the Berlin church plant. We were taken aback when Kevin Rose sent through a near identical prophetic word to that which we’d received the previous year. The original word given to us from our friend Laurence Evans was,
“The words Potsdammer Platz came into my head for you. It was strange because I didn’t know where Potsdammer Platz was, nor did I really know how to spell it. So, I went home and Google mapped it. It turns out Potsdammer Platz was in the centre of Berlin, where east meets west. It is also a symbol of rebirth.”
Kevin sent us the following words over a year later:
“When you mentioned in your video about wanting prophetic input, I felt God say Potsdam and then Potsdamer Platz and looked them up on the map and saw that Potsdam is just outside the city boundary, which disappointed me somewhat, but then when I looked up Potsdamer Platz I realised that it is central to Berlin. Be encouraged, God’s got Berlin, and you guys, firmly in his gaze.”
When I told Kevin about the prophetic word we’d received from Laurence, his response was, “Haha, brilliant. We shouldn’t be surprised, should we!”
Potsdammer Platz is a famous intersection right at the heart of Berlin, and Berlin as the capital city is right at the heart of Germany. We shouldn’t be surprised that God speaks today, that He loves to answer our prayers, and wants to start new churches in strategic cities across Europe.
We are organising two days to gather people interested in hearing more and potentially being a part of the adventure. These days will be an opportunity to pray, connect with God’s heart for the city and nation, and to get to know the team who will be moving to Berlin in early 2018.
Check out the video and join us on Saturday 1 July in London, Sidcup, 10.30am-4pm, and then over the 500 year anniversary weekend of the Reformation – Saturday 28 October – in Berlin itself.
We are starting to gather a team together and we’d love you to join us! Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us if you have a heart for Germany and are interested in the church plant. For more information visit www.berlinadventure.tv or email us.
