Planting News: G1 Braamfontein
Godfirst Church along with the Advance team have been working towards planting a church into Braamfontein, an area within central Johannesburg (also known as Joburg) for some time now. Here’s the latest news.
My name is Dan Plagerson, I’m married to Sophie and we have 4 kids. We’ve been leading a church at Wits University, a top tier university in Johannesburg for four years now. I am also part of the Eldership team of Godfirst Church in the Parks.
Sophie and I have a long history with various former Newfrontiers churches across the UK. We came to SA for nine months so that Sophie could do some research for her degree while I got involved in Godfirst and loved it so much we chose to stay on. Seven years, four kids & a rabbit later, we are still here, loving it and planting a church in Braamfontein in 2016.
ALL ABOUT JESUS
We are all about Jesus. We love seeing people from all walks of life coming to know and love Jesus. We are both passionate about social justice and raising future leaders for the church and society in South Africa.
Godfirst Church along with the Advance team have been working towards planting a church into Braamfontein, an area within central Johannesburg (also known as Joburg) for some time now.
The central city of Johannesburg is a place that people in the past have fled from, but in recent years have been flocking back to. Braamfontein has seen a dramatic change. It has become an incredible melting pot, not only of students but also of young professionals, filmmakers, journalists, photographers and foreigners; it’s home to the rich and poor, black and white.
By day it houses some major corporations and by night and on the weekend it’s the playground to an emerging trendy crowd of young South Africans who are taking back the city and increasingly reflecting the kind of ‘unity in diversity’ that we’d love to see across the country.
We are excited to say that we have found a great venue big enough for both adults and kids church. We will be meeting on the 17th floor of the Orion Devonshire Hotel situated on Jorissen Street, which comes with inspirational views, plenty of space and great parking.
We believe that the impact that a church can have in this part of the city is massive and we’d love for you to journey with us. If you could prayerfully consider partnering in the following ways:
· Firstly please pray for us. Please particularly pray for the existing community groups to be highly effective in mission, hospitality and the Gospel!
· Secondly, if you have financial resources or people with a heart for Joburg, we need both!
If you want to keep in touch or express your interest in joining our team on this great mission simply contact me on either one of the following:
