Newfrontiers Prayer Day Review
Last month hundreds of leaders from across the Newfrontiers family of churches gathered together for a day of prayer for the nation. The venue for the day was the wonderful Westminster Chapel, right in the heart of our capital. Westminster Chapel is now home base for Guy Miller who leads the Commission family of churches.
What was memorable about the day was the sense of togetherness, of being reunited with family from across the nation and the nations. Across the room you could see many happy reunions as we spotted friends and caught up on news!
There was a wonderful atmosphere of faith and growing expectation as we gathered to worship, which was so ably led by Simon Brading and team. There was also a real sense of growing momentum as God reminded us of the many prophetic promises we are told hold together as a family for our nation.
We spent the day praying into issues within our society focussing on young people dealing with addiction, violence and lack of identity. For our public services as they take on the strain of a nation struggling to care for the sick and those in need. We prayed for the many church plants working into areas where social deprivation is high and for our politicians as they seek to guide our nation through a period of massive uncertainty and confusion over our future.
As we prayed there was a real sense of God calling us by His Spirit to be part of the solution in many of these areas we were praying for. For courage to stand up and partner with God in bringing His gospel and kingdom to the world around us. There was a sense that we were being called to play our part in the restoration and rebuilding work.
David Devenish encouraged us that God wanted to stir up within us, words which we had received as a movement in years past and to move pray and seek God for them with fresh vigour. That God has given us many tools by His Spirit, which we will need to reach out to the world around us.
Guy Miller spoke on Nehemiah and looked at some of the issues which our nation is fighting and then encouraged us to pray for 5 things:
- For God’s Glory to be displayed
- Admission – to ask for forgiveness
- Truth – to pray that God’s truth would be revealed
- Evangelism – to ask God for workers and to be those who spread the good news
- Supplication – for God’s help to give ourselves to prayer in the days ahead
Later in the afternoon session Mike Betts encouraged us to pray for the following:
- For more workers
- For the Holy Spirit to equip us
- For the ‘where, the what, and the who’ – to ask God what & where he is working and to go with him and work with those God has appointed to do it!
We really are a family together on a mission and this sense of our togetherness in Christ was marked as we shared communion together.
It was such a fantastic day – if you are a senior leader or part of the leadership team in a ChristCentral church we’d really recommend you get to the next Newfrontiers prayer day which is scheduled to take place on 24 March 2021 (save the date!)
