Moving On In Delft
What is happening in Delft? And who am I? Perhaps that is the logical place to start. My name is Dean Wilding and in May this year, I took over the leadership of the team at Redeemer Delft church plant. I’m originally from the UK and came to do my PhD in microscopy here in Delft nearly four years ago. In that time, I got involved in Redeemer The Hague and eventually ended up being a part of the group that got the Delft church plant off the ground.
I am married to my hero Tamar, a native of the Netherlands, een Nederlander, and have a son called Tristan. Big-T and Little-T are currently enjoying life together (sometimes!) at home. Aside from being a mother Tamar is also a therapist who helps people with mental health issues through dramatherapeutic processes and psychology. I enjoy teaching, preaching, reading, working things out and spending a potentially unhealthy amount of time absorbing information from Wikipedia and IMDB. That is not a lot, but it serves as a good introduction to us.
It has been nearly two years since we started meeting in Delft as a group of people who would start the church plant. I remember sitting and looking around at the faces of those who would become my friends and an invaluable part of making this church happen and thinking how little I felt I had to contribute. I am glad to say that some things do not change! I still feel in awe of the group that I now get to lead in seeing the kingdom of God coming in greater measure in our beautiful city of Delft.
On the other hand, thank God that some things do change. As a church, we have seen people come to faith, baptisms in the local lake (see the photo!), all kinds of healing, marriages restored, community created, purpose given, gifts released, leaders raised up, and most of all the gospel preached and God glorified in Delft.
With God all things are possible, Jesus tells us so and that is something we have seen time and time again with this mustard seed we planted in Delft. The grace of God is so powerfully with us and thankfully, He really has been leading and guiding us through all of this, since most of the time we don’t have a clue what we are doing!
