Empowered and buzzing

Ministry to the poor November 6, 2017

It’s nine days after the 2017 Jubilee+ conference and I [Natalie Williams] am still buzzing! This was our seventh Churches that Change Communities conference but the first time that the annual event has sold out. What a day we had together!

From the first song of worship in the morning, the atmosphere was incredible. We were packed in to City Church Cambridge (who hosted us wonderfully) and the presence of God was palpable from the start.

During the week running up to the conference, one of my friends and colleagues at King’s Church in Hastings had said to me that she felt like Jubilee+ has been like a deep sea oil rig, pushing deeper and deeper, sometimes through rocks that were hard to budge, but that this year’s conference would be as if we had finally struck oil.

That really reflects my experience of the day and the comments I’ve heard since. During the day itself, delegates were coming out of main sessions and seminars saying how profound they were finding them. Others reported key networking opportunities for them, while for others they felt from even just the first session alone that they were gaining clarity on what their next step should be.

Feedback we received during the day was hugely encouraging, but what brought even more joy to my heart was a few days later, when I was at two days of prayer in Sidcup, several church leaders mentioned to me that people had returned to their churches raving about the conference. One church leader told me that another of his leaders had come back saying it was one of the best days of his life!

The Jubilee+ team runs this conference each year not out of habit but because we genuinely believe that those on the frontline of caring for the poorest need the fresh equipping, inspiring and empowering that comes from a day spent with hundreds of like-minded people.

In 2018 we’re moving Churches that Change Communities to London for the first time. We’ve already set the date – Saturday 10 November – and we’re excited that Everyday Church in Wimbledon will be hosting us. If you’d like to join us, please put the date in your diaries and sign up for our enewsletter (bottom left of the homepage) so you’ll hear from us when tickets are available.

In the meantime, you can find the recordings of the main sessions and seminars from Churches that Change Communities 2017 here.
